The Naniwa Dressing Stone is used to clean and refresh the surface of waterstones and other whetstones. During sharpening, metal filings can build up on the surface of a whetstone and hinder its sharpening abilities if not cleaned. A dressing stone will extend the life of your whetstone by simply cleaning it, before it comes time to true/flatten it.
To use the Naniwa Dressing Stone, soak it for several minutes until the stone is saturated. Then rub the dressing stone on your waterstone’s surface until the surface is clean and free of dark marks. Rinse your water stone and dressing stone thoroughly, and allow both to dry inbetween sharpening sessions.
